HEAVY IS THE HEAD

Ah is it not synonymous to life itself,
Like a river that eternally ebbs and flows,
Like sands of time which irreversibly sheds,
Through crooks and creeks,
Of dunes and peaks,
With turbulence of life built like intrinsic webs,
But somewhere amongst the delicate weeps,
Lies life’s antique botiques.
Maybe that’s the beauty we seek.

The given light is brief, emphatic. That is a given.

LIMBO

Neither here nor there,
Stitched between the veils of existence,
The air, thick with the melodies forsaken,
A symphony of dissonance,
Time, the erratic dancer,
Wove threads of perpetual uncertainty.
Inhabitants of this sphere,
Like phantoms of shared delusion,
Together we toiled beneath skies draped in surreal hues,
Each drop of swear a sacrament to the promise of reprieve.
Our labour a cosmic exchange as we readied our nurtured soil for trade,
Watering passage to the next astral sanctuary.
Planet of limbo caught in the eternal flux,
Harboured both the departure and arrival of souls ensnared in the transcendental choreography of transience.

Performance piece questioning Hindu menstruation rituals and female rights within this.

Performed:
Strange Brew, Bristol, Doozy Magazine- January 2024

POOJA

Within the depth of the red,
The demons rest,
The temple grounds must stay pure and clean,
The womb space must stay pure and clean,
Swami banished me from the temple grounds,
He said I am impure,
My purity would return in X days,
Swami said the village must know I bleed,
They rang the bells of blood,
They sung the songs of menstruation,
Swami said I am ready,
The men came and laid saris at my feet,
They laid jewellery and begged at my knees,
Swami banished me from the temple grounds,
He said I am impure
My purity would return in X days,
My flow becomes tethys,
My purity resides within me,
From bones to ash to blood,
To each holy drip of menstruation,
Within and without menstruation,
I am pure,
But Swami sees me as impure.
